MasterWorks Academy 2024 -2026 Course Schedule
MasterWorks, Inc. has developed a robust curriculum of 8 courses (Adventures) that are valuable for ministers and everday believers who want to deepen their walk with God, their knowledge of the Bible, and their ministry as disciples of Jesus Christ. The MasterWorks Academy leads to the Certificate in Christian Ministry with an emphasis on Disciple-making.
The Adventures range in length from 3 to 10 class periods. Students may sign up for individual courses, or a semester at a time, or enroll for the entire certificate program. All courses will be taught by Dr. David Schroeder, at times with help from other MasterWorks faculty. Most classes will meet online on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:00pm (EST). There is no cost for the courses, except you will be encouraged to buy the textbooks from MasterWorks or Amazon.
The courses are listed here and described below:
Finding Your Charisma – 3 classes; “I want to know and use my spiritual gift.”
The Greek word charisma means “favor” or “gift.” Did you know that the Bible consistently teaches that every individual believer has only one spiritual gift, and that it’s not an ability or an activity? You will discover your spiritual DNA during this course.
This popular course on spiritual gifts has been taught to thousands who have discovered key ideas that differ from unbiblical, traditional views. Well over 90% who have taken the course have discovered their charisma and have been significantly impacted. Not just a “game-changer,” Finding Your Charisma is a life-changer and a church-transformer. You will never see yourself the same way. Guaranteed. Foundational to spiritual formation.
Walking in Your Anointing – 6 classes; “I want to grow in spiritual power”
Your anointing is for empowerment and effective ministry, and that is experienced in proportion to how well you know who you are in Christ and how well you know who Christ is in you.
Spiritual maturity is not a matter of age or how long one has been a Christian, or even how well you know the Bible. Your view of God and of yourself impact your growth. Small view of God and inadequate view of yourself = slow or no growth. This course gives you corrective lenses about the biblical worldview using Michael Heiser’s book, Supernatural. We also explore the topics “Identity” and “Anointing.” Your pneuma-phobia will be cured.
Frontiers of Faith – 6 classes; “I want better understanding of basic Bible doctrines.”
The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “I would not have you to be ignorant, my brothers…,” so he informed them about a theological truth. Frontiers of Faith will inform you about the most basic and important truths in God’s Word.
Many believers are like the earliest followers of Jesus – they know the Lord, but do not know the basic teachings of the Bible on key doctrinal issues. Theological illiteracy can be eradicated by taking this course which focuses on three main topics: The Father and His Word, The Son and the Gospel, and the Spirit and the Church, using Dr. Schroeder’s book Frontiers of Faith.
Worldviews & World Religions – 7 classes; “I want to know how others think about God.”
Fish have a worldview; it’s called water. Like many people today, fish may not be aware of their worldview, but they live within it; it is their reality. Every human being has a worldview, whether they know it or not. We will consider cultural and religious views of reality (worldviews), and explore how western Judeo-Christian theism devolved into today’s post-modern humanism, and more.
Using James Sire’s book, The Universe Next Door, we explore cultural and religious views of reality (worldviews). We will explore how western Judeo-Christian theism devolved into today’s post-modern humanism, traveling through deism, naturalism, existentialism, eastern transcendentalism (especially Hinduism and Buddhism), and new age religion only to land in MTD, moralistic therapeutic deism.
Spiritual Warfare – 7 classes; “I want insight into how Satan is corrupting the work of
God and how to combat him.”
Satan is real. And so is the war he wages against the Church. God’s enemy delights in diminishing our ability to serve the Lord and in blinding us to the joy and love God wants in our lives, and he specializes in corrupting and paralyzing local churches.
Spiritual warfare is not a trendy new topic. Dr. Schroeder’s book, The Lion, the Church, and the Warfare will be used, with its special emphasis on Ephesians, the Pauline letter written to the city most plagued by the demonic. The ancient biblical worldview taught in Heiser’s Supernatural will be reviewed, and it is impossible to adequately consider this theme without delving into apologetics.
Church On Mission – 5 classes; “I want to learn how my church can maximize its ministry.”
We begin this course with the question: How did the apostle Paul guide an adolescent church (Corinth) to become united and missional? This course helps us in learning and applying the strategies of Paul.
How did the apostle Paul guide an adolescent church (Corinth) to become united and missional?
He addressed these questions: “What is the mission of Jesus Christ in the world today?” “What kind of people does He want to accomplish that purpose?” “What kind of church ministry will develop/produce those kinds of people?” “What kind of leaders do we need to be to encourage that kind of church ministry?” and “What ‘in-body’ ministries should we exercise to become these kinds of people?”
Apostolic Strategies – 8 classes: “I want to know how the Apostle Paul taught local
churches to impact their communities for Christ.”
Paul’s thirteen letters to churches and pastors address cultural and spiritual issues that needed God’s perspective and guidance. The same issues are relevant today. In the letters of the Apostle Paul to churches and leaders, we find many strategies that can help us today in our mission work. We have identified one key idea from each of Paul’s thirteen epistles that will help us be more missional in our ministries. We present them not in their chronological / historical order, nor in their biblical (canonical) order, but in a topical order to emphasize three functions of the Church: Declaring Biblical Truth, Protecting / Projecting Church Testimony, and Providing Ministry Training.
Bible Alive! – 20 classes; “I want to learn the contents and know how all the books of the Bible can be used in my life and ministry.”
Hungry to know the Bible? In Bible Alive you will learn Context, Contents, Ministry Themes and Personal Applications of all 66 books. Over 500 PowerPoint slides will put you on a pathway to lifelong delightful study and use of God’s Word.
Using the Archaeological Study Bible, you will learn fascinating information that gives rich texture and color to many Bible texts – discoveries that are as rare and valuable as any ancient relic found by a great archaeologist. Lectures and group discussions based on light homework assignments add to the delight. Transferrable as six credits in Pillar College (Introduction to Old Testament and Introduction to New Testament).
Come & Go Disciple-making – 16 classes; “I want to learn how Jesus made disciples and how
I can also do it.”
Jesus’ first invitation to disciples was “COME, follow me;” his last words were a command, “GO, make disciples.” You will be trained in disciple-making which is exactly what Jesus wants us to do. Using Come & Go, you will learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus who makes other disciples.
Jesus’ first invitation to disciples was “COME, follow me;” his last words were a command, “GO, make disciples.” Using Dr. Schroeder’s disciple-making manual, Come & Go, and working in small break-out groups, you will learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and how to become a disciple-making disciple. Ideally, during this semester you will form a small group of disciple protégées who will continue with you after you have completed the semester, and thus you will be doing the Great Commission of making disciples.
